For a great overview of your lymphatic system read Lymphatic Drainage and You! Do you ever feel inflamed and swollen?  Have you had a surgery or injury and can’t seem to get the swelling down? Do you have aches and pains that arise suddenly without much explanation?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you may benefit greatly from lymphatic drainage!

What is your lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is an often overlooked system in our bodies.  We all know about our nervous system or circulatory system but often forget we have another system that is just as extensive, goes throughout our whole body, and is just as important.

The lymphatic system helps maintain fluid balance in our body and is closely tied to our circulatory system and bloodstream. It is composed of a network of delicate tubes throughout the body. The primary job of the lymphatic system is to help transport and move excess fluids and materials throughout the body and also to get rid of waste that has built up in our bodies.

What is Lymph Made Of?

Get Your Lymph Flowing!

For great and easy tips on how to get your lymph flowing, moving, and draining read Get Your Lymph Moving!

One of my specialties is getting your lymphatic system cleared and your lymph flowing. So many of our bodily issues are tied to the lymphatic system being clogged or working inefficiently. When this occurs we can feel extra inflammation and puffiness. It can also affect our energy levels and overall feelings of wellbeing. Obviously the most beneficial and efficient way to get your lymphatic system moving is to have a lymphatic drainage massage. In the meantime there are many things you can do to help your lymphatic system at home.

  • Exercise
  • Hot and Cold Showers
  • Use Dry Brushing
  • Drink Clean Water
  • Avoid Wearing Tight Clothes
  • Breathe Deeply
  • Eat Foods That Promote Lymph Flow
  • Avoid Foods That Cause Blockages To The Lymphatic System
  • Drink Herbal Tea That Stimulates Lymph Flow

The blog post Surgery and Lymphatic Drainage Therapy is a great resource for anyone who is going to undergo surgery or has just come out of a surgical procedure.

Tips for faster recovery and healing from surgery:

1. Find a massage therapist who can do lymphatic drainage before scheduling surgery.

2. Schedule your lymphatic drainage massage therapy sessions before surgery.

3. Attend your lymphatic drainage therapy sessions as soon as you can post surgery.

4.Further tips!

Whether or not you choose Posture Massage to help with your recovery from surgery, keep in mind that lymphatic draining should NEVER hurt!  Having your tissues massaged near your surgery site is a delicate process, yet it should NEVER be painful.  Your massage therapist should go at a pace and pressure that helps your body and does not hurt it.

Surgeries are not cheap, so protect your investment by caring for yourself post operatively in the best way possible, which includes scheduling and attending lymphatic drainage therapy.

Lymphatic Drainage & Cancer Recovery

Lastly it is important for those dealing with cancer to know the benefits of lymphatic drainage on recovery. The blog post Lymphatic Drainage & Cancer Recovery explains benefits while dealing with cancer.

Through the years I have worked with a lot of clients who have undergone cancer treatments and therapies. Because cancer is such a complex disease to treat, the treatments are often harsh on our bodies.  The cancer itself is hard enough for our bodies to fight and then we add chemicals or medicine treatments, surgeries, and therapies that can be challenging for bodies to process.

Our lymphatic system is amazing at draining out and cleaning up waste products and chemicals from our bodies.  The lymph system, unlike the circulatory system, does not have a muscle pumping the lymph around our bodies, but is a passive system relying on movement and stretching for its flow. This is where lymphatic drainage can be key.
