Negative Spirals Downward

We have all been there, we woke up grumpy or something small did not go our way and suddenly it seems like the Universe has conspired against us. We feel like we have suddenly become a negativity magnet. If anything could go wrong, it does! What started out as a neutral day has become a horrible, “can I please skip today” kind of day. This is a real phenomenon! I’m sure you are hoping that I will say, “Don’t worry it wasn’t your fault” but alas, worry! It was your fault! How is it your fault? Well, let’s dive in, not to wallow in self-pity or guilt, but in order to raise our self-awareness so that negative spirals happen less frequently.  Read More

The Stories We Tell Ourselves

Not only do we tell stories to those around us and in our lives, we also tell stories to ourselves. Our self-talk and conversations within our own heads are often stories or pieces of stories. Our stream of consciousness is a story, not always coherent or flowing perfectly, but a story just the same. What happens when we are presented with situations or facts that don’t come with full explanations or have pieces missing? The only problem is that our brains are filling in the blanks to create a story which may not be based on the truth or actual facts.  Read More

Laugh!

We have all heard the old adage, “Laughter is the best medicine,” and I agree that laughter is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. If you have had a session with me at Posture Massage, then you know laughter is an element that I try to incorporate into every session. I have also been told for ages that I have a unique and infectious laugh, so that doesn’t hurt things either. Laughter may not be able to cure all afflictions we experience in life but it sure does have some great positive benefits for our health. Bring More Peace in Your Life With the 4 Agreements; Advice on Settling Your Mind

We have all likely had the experience of becoming unsettled or our minds spinning because of some “drama” or something that has occurred in our lives. These times can be quite painful and upsetting. Our brains can feel like they don’t want to let go of certain thoughts and feelings. We can replay things in our heads over and over ad nauseum. One of the best pieces of advice I have for clients when this happens is to review The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz. Read More

Try A Complaining Fast!

Much like secondhand smoke, whining and complaining comes at a cost and can affect stress hormone levels, job performance, job satisfaction, and our interpersonal relationships. Stress hormones can harm neural networks involved in cognition and problem solving abilities. It has been found that the less a person complains the more likely they are to be happier, satisfied, and feel productive. Doing a complaining fast can be a very beneficial thing for all of us. Much like trying to break a swearing habit, it can be difficult to immediately change complaining behavior. We get used to our habits whether good or bad. However, like any habit, the more we increase our awareness of our habit, the easier it becomes to change that habit.  Read More

3 Life-Changing Words

Saying “I love this” can be a game changer for people.  They are able to adapt to life’s challenges and even thrive better by viewing things more positively and also by integrating changes into their narratives with positive feelings and vibes. A lot of the torment we experience in this life as human beings is due to not letting go or refusing to accept what has already occurred. This does not mean that those occurrences were not important, crucial, or traumatizing, but changing our outlook and processing them with a sense of love can help us to embrace change and grow.   Read More
