The Magic of Healing Is Inside You; I’m Just The Assistant

After having sessions with me and experiencing the benefits of the many different techniques I use to clear tissues, bodies, and brains of their angst, it is not uncommon for clients to think that I have magical powers or that I am the only person who can help them to feel better.

As flattering as those thoughts may be, I must say they are wholly untrue. Our bodies are designed to function well, heal constantly, and experience happiness and love. My role is that of an assistant to reconnect you with the powers that are already at work inside of you.

Inner Physician

We each have what is termed an “Inner Physician.”  Our bodies have evolved over millennia to function amazingly well, in spite of the various environments and experiences that we may encounter as human beings. The inner physician is essentially a genetically hardwired system of self preservation, healing, and an innate force pushing us to prosper.

The inner physician is well known in many cultures and gets tied to the concept of spirits, souls, God, and any number of other religious or sacred beliefs that humans hold. The bottom line is simply that our bodies and brains want to thrive. They want to be whole. They want to avoid getting sick and heal when they are sick. The inner physician operates within us whether we want them to or not. Obviously the better we are at communicating with our bodies and brains the more willing we will be to turn over the reins to our inner physician and follow its promptings.

My Role

One of the reasons that I love my job is that it gives me the opportunity to help people reconnect with something that is always inside of them but may have been ignored or stifled by pain, stress, being busy, or misguided assumptions.

I have the task of helping each person reconnect inward and clear the obstacles that have been getting in the way of their healing. Sometimes it is tied to their lymphatic system being sluggish and needing help getting rid of waste products. Other times I help by releasing the tissues that get stuck from injuries. Most often I am also helping you and your tissues to release the emotions and stresses that have built up and caused things to get stuck in the first place.

How do I do it? I let your body be the guide. I follow where your inner physician essentially tells me to go. In the process I help you to recognize the cues and clues that your body is constantly giving you. As you practice following those cues you will learn what I have: the body wants to heal and knows what it needs to function best if we will just listen and then follow.

Realistic Expectations

Again, as flattering as it can be, I am not a miracle worker. I will always do my best to try to help you and your body to get back on the right track to healing, however it can take time and patience.

Yes, sometimes your aches and pains can be dissolved in one session but more often than not it will take time and a few visits to resolve issues in your tissues. It is rare that our discomfort in our tissues happens instantaneously, unless involved in an accident or through surgery. More often than not, our aches and pains come on slowly over a period of time from ignoring issues or stresses that chronically build up and affect our tissues.

In most cases, and like most things in life, patience and perseverance are key to healing. Problems that developed over a long time may take a long time to unwind and undo. Our bodies heal at a natural pace that is programmed in them. Aside from that, it often takes time for us to address, unwind, change, and rebalance the behaviors and stresses that cause us tension and pain. The longer we ignore our issues, both physical and emotional, the longer it will take to work through them.

My Goal Is To Empower You

I get great satisfaction from teaching people how to work on themselves. In most sessions I am guiding you and showing you what I am doing so that you may also practice the techniques on yourself. This may be a poor “business model” since I am not forcing you to come in and pay me to fix your every ache and pain, but it is a good “humanity model” since I believe that we should each share any knowledge that can better each others’ lives.

Nothing brings me more satisfaction than hearing clients stories about how they were able to follow some of the techniques I taught them and improve their lives. I want to foster independence and health. There will be times when you cannot do everything on your own and need help, that is perfectly fine. I also recommend that you actively incorporate a support team for your personal needs. That team could include myself, your family medical doctor, a therapist/counselor, religious leaders or ways to decompress and view the world, friends, family, pets, plants, financial advisors… and the list goes on. The more resources we have and the more robust our support system is, the better able we will be in managing our emotions, stresses, griefs, aches, pains, and problems.

Our bodies have powers and energies within them. Learn to use those systems to heal and you will find that the quality of your life also improves! Want to learn more? Consider this topic up with Julie in your next session at Posture Massage!
