Your Organs
We often forget the many things that keep us alive just under our skin and within our bodies. Our organs are one of those not-so-thought-of pieces that do very critical work for our well-being. Did you know that you can connect with your organs and essentially communicate with them?
We as humans tend to be very cerebral and in our heads at the negligence of a lot of the rest of our body parts. One way to keep our stress levels low and to help our tissues loosen and relax is to consciously communicate with them through our thoughts and touch. The organs are no different. You can direct your consciousness to each of them and check-in to see how they are doing and to help them to relax. Try it out! Just say “hello body” and see what happens.
Saying Hello
Get yourself into a comfortable position and comfortable mindspace where you can relax and listen. Then hug your organs physically, whether that be by wrapping your arms around your torso, belly or body, OR by placing your hands on the skin above an organ or place that is calling to you. Don’t be aggressive or forceful with your touch, a common thing for most of us to do since we often don’t realize how rough we can be on ourselves.
Gently place your hands on your body and converse with your organs/body parts like you would a friend. Ask them how they are doing? Ask them how they are feeling. How have they been? Anything they want to get off their chest? Let your brain connect in and for the communication between your conscious self and your inner workings to go back and forth. Then listen, listen, listen. It is okay to ask a question and wait. Pay attention to your feelings and what the tissue is doing- softening or hardening. Follow those feelings down into yourself. If you ask a question and get an uneasy feeling, follow it as emotions are just information. Ask more questions and listen. Usually our discomfort is leading us to the source of an issue or problem we need to look at.
Listen Carefully
For example, let's say you start communicating with your liver and you start to experience anger or an uneasy feeling. Follow it and see what your brain and liver have to tell you. Are you hydrating enough? Are you pushing it too hard with alcohol or other unhealthy habits? Is it feeling stressed because when your whole body gets stressed you scarf down a ton of sugar and the liver gets to deal with it? The experience is more important than the answers. When you find an unexpected emotion trapped in your tissues and are able to listen and follow them, you will help to clear those emotions and relieve any stress you have been carrying in that part of your body.
